The rich repertoire of maestros

As a young musician Carel Kraayenhof was invited by the old maestros of the tango to perform together in Argentina. By now Kraayenhof has become himself the direct descendant of Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Pugliese. Astor Piazzolla invited Carel in 1987 to New York to perform as bandoneón soloist in the tango musical ‘Tango Apasionado’. After his return to The Netherlands Carel created the Sexteto Canyengue, which this year celebrates it’s 25th jubilee. Invited by Osvaldo Pugliese in 1990 the sextet toured with Pugliese’s orchestra in Argentina. Alongside the many standard repertoire pieces of the orchestras, for example Troilo, D’Arienzo, Di Sarli and Canaro, maestro Pugliese’s rich repertoire forms the basis for the sextet’s repertoire. Sexteto Canyengue has lead the great maestros of tango dance, Antonio Todaro, Pepito Avellaneda & Suzuki and Goria & Eduardo, and collaborates with renowned dance couples such as Claudia & Esteban and Rubén & Sabrina, with whom the sextet toured extensively throughout the world. Also, the sextet has accompanied the National Ballet from the Netherlands since 1998, performing the ballet ’5 Tangos’ with music of Astor Piazzolla.
