SIGRID AND MARIA : Duo Entre Dos

After more than 20 years of professional tango career, each on their side, life is offering Sigrid & Maria, the opportunity to transform their friendship and respect to each other into a DUO, to continue to seek the excellence, side by side, enriching and challenging each other on human, pedagogical and artistic levels.

Over the years, they both went around the "classic" male/female configuration, by which they entered the tango and which they did not question a priori. Their many experiences of past collaborations (sometimes even with the same partners) have naturally shown them that what prevails is the content, the philosophy, the vision, the sensitivity, the mutual respect and the curiosity… and certainly not the gender.

In brief, what connects them deeply, and makes their approach so special on the tango scene, is a somatic approach to movement and the body in space. Doing so, they focus on connecting the structure of tango with emotion and musicality.

This very personal approach makes the study of tango with them a fascinating insight into a very coherent and specific, yet completely universal and contemporary dance. As Maria & Sigrid are themselves never-ending students, they both used the imposed stop of the last years to deepen their personal study of the body and movement. Their teaching is thus newly enriched by the study of BODY MIND CENTERING® (Sigrid), GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® (Maria).

Approach and method

Their teaching is both playful and dense, as well as always extremely precise. It aims at providing tango dancers with a deep and joyful experience of the body in space, from a cellular and biomechanical approach to an energetic and poetic perspective. Its purpose is to help people question, discover concepts or change perspective on things they might have been doing for years, to give sense and deepness to their dancing and help them grow.

They propose numerous proprioceptive explorations and experimenting around core concepts, to increase dancer's sensitivity and understanding of the structure of tango as well as the internal rules of the body in motion.

Double role

They focus on what the two roles have in common, rather than breaking them down separately. They always relate the concepts studied in class back to the idea of connection.

They also address more personal and psychological issues on the different dimensions of both roles.

That's why they switch continuously between working individually and with a partner (leading experience not required).

In that context, changing roles is naturally a great key to sensing all the dimensions at stake.
