Pablo Woiz & Milonga Roots

“Quinteto Rítmico”

Pablo Woiz & Milonga Roots is a musical ensemble that interprets the native rhythms of the Rio de la Plata region, such as tango, milonga, vals, zamba, and Argentine folklore. The piano is the lead instrument of the ensemble, which explores the African roots of tango rhythms. The musical arrangements are created by Pablo Woiz, the pianist and director of the ensemble, who demonstrates a great passion for the music of his country and pays tribute to the great masters of tango, while developing his own approach and musical style, creating a unique musical language.

Pablo Woiz is a versatile and experienced musician who leads the ensemble in their exploration of tango rhythms. Double bass and percussion are fundamental to the musical interpretation of the group and complement Pablo's vision for the ensemble, discovering new paths and expanding musical possibilities.

In 2017, Milonga Roots released their first album "Vol.1" under the record label "Hofa Medien". Since then, they have performed dozens of notable concerts at festivals and renowned venues throughout Europe. The ensemble has been featured at events such as the International Festival of Innsbruck, the International Tango Festival of Copenhagen, and performed at the Philharmonie Berlin with the show "Tres pianistas, tres mundos," among other notable events. They have also been invited to participate in the 2023 edition of the Tarbes Festival (France).

Milonga Roots currently performs in two formations: as a trio (piano, percussion, and guitar) and as a quintet, with the addition of bandoneon and double bass. In all of their presentations, the group focuses on the style and interpretation of Argentine and Latin American music, offering a unique musical experience.

The musicians who make up the ensemble are:

Pablo Woiz - piano, direction, and arrangements

Martin Iannaccone - drums

David Hagen- bass

Maxime Point  - bandoneon

Carlos Corona - guitar

Vita:

Woiz has collaborated with legends of the Tango world, including Juan José Mosalini, Luis Stazo, Julia Zenko, Alfredo Marcucci, Quique Sinesi, Alberto Podestá, and Osvaldo Montes.

He played the piano in "Sexteto de Gabriel Merlino", in "Tango Pasión show” (Europe-Tour 2009, 2015, 2019) and together with the „Sexteto de Luis Stazo“.

Pablo Woiz has completed piano studies at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires, but his actual school is the permanent exploration of the music itself. Tango in its traditional form, tango of Astor Piazzolla, tango in the development and fusion with other musical influences like Zamba or Chacarera. Every concert makes him rethink his musical language, questioning the interpretation, and delve deeper into the understanding of it.

Since 2007 Pablo Woiz, born in Argentina, lives and works in Berlin.
