Little Rubén Juárez, the one who made paper bands, was already a teenager at the death of Julio Sosa, the star tanguero who challenged the Anglo-Saxon vogue in the Buenos Aires of the 1960s. Then Rubén took up the torch. His very rare quality of bandoneonist-singer made him a unique phenomenon in the history of the tango-song so long played by Carlos Gardel.

He passed through the period 1965-1982, dark years for Argentina and even more for the tango, as the performer capable of perpetuating the excellence of the soloists of the golden age of orchestras of the 1940s. He went on to do about twenty-three rounds, testifying to a rare sensitivity and interpretative mastery. But he wanted more, he wanted to shake the tango, confront it, also to bring it closer to the youth who had turned away. He spawned with the stars of Argentine pop and rock, imposing his swing, his sense of improvisation.

An overflowing personality, an artist of fierce and abrasive integrity, he wrote his legend with his white bandoneon, through the endless nights of his cabaret, El Homero, run as a family. He disappeared on May 31, 2010, at the age of 63. He had become “El Último”, the last of the giants. Far from being hagiographic, this qualifier of one of its lyricists offers it its rightful place in the history of tango, an artistic paradise conquered at the cost of a tormented trajectory.

Great names of the emblematic music of Buenos Aires came to testify for this documentary in front of the camera of Jean-Luc Thomas and Alejandro Venturini about what Juárez was, his personality, his singular genius and his artistic heritage. His children, his wife, also opened the book of a tribe whose leader, debonair and toning, heart throbs and outbursts, watched tirelessly the new challenge, the next tango. And who loves him follows him! His concerts ended with his war cry: Viva el tango!
