In his neighbourhood in Santiago del Estero, northern Argentina, young Nino is regularly the victim of homophobic acts because he is effeminate. In order to protect him, his very religious mother takes the whole family to the countryside for summer holidays. The forest near the house has a reputation for being haunted by the Almamula, a monster that according to legend takes away all those who commit carnal sins. While attending catechism classes in preparation for his confirmation, Nino feels strangely attracted to the cursed forest.
