Romeo and Juliet Tango
Direction : Francisco Leiva
Choregraphy : Francisco Leiva & laura roatta
Musical direction : facundo Torres
A free version of the play by William Shakespeare.
A play combining Tango, Modern Dance, Live Music and some text extracts.
Love, passion, pride, hatred and death are essential aspects of our play based on dance and music.
8 dancers on stage, 4 musicians (optional)
The experience of the music and stage directors, working in both Europe and Argentina make this Romeo and Juliet a unique and special show, rooted in the past and present.
Dance and music :
It is Tango that is both modern and traditional , sticking to the essence and imagery of Argentine tango but also and more particularly rooted in a young Tango, evoking these numerous dancers worldwide. A Tango from Buenos Aires streets where it was born. The langage of movements is based on the intentions of these movements ; starting from these intentions, dance was born / manipulations, encounters, separations, fusions…among others.
All this creates a dance based not on form but on its content, while becoming a dance that evokes narrations.
Music :
A quartet is specially formed for the play.
We use essential instruments of Tango such as bandoneon, and we combine it with instruments not rooted in Tango : drums and machines
Both traditional and present music, typical and modern tangos with recollections of the styles of Rio de la Plata, el Candombe and Murga.
A powerful music, with an enveloping sonority, creating atmospheres that involve the audience, not as simple spectators but as members of the play.
