Iriel kaufman : Singer
Iriel Kaufman is a young Argentine tango singer, born in Buenos Aires. Alongside her artistic career, she is a French teacher and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).
She began her artistic training at a very young age. In 1996, at the age of just eight, she enrolled at the ‘M. J. Labardén’ Vocational Institute of Art in Buenos Aires, where she explored various artistic disciplines until 2004. Subsequently, in 2015, she continued and furthered her musical training at the Avellaneda School of Popular Music (EMPA), where she followed the Advanced Instrumentalist in Popular Music course, specialising in tango singing.
Since 2018, she has been a member and co-founder of “La Empoderada Orquesta Atípica”, an ensemble comprising 17 female musicians and a pioneer in integrating a gender perspective into tango. In recognition of its work, the orchestra was declared “of interest for the promotion and defence of women’s rights and diversity” by the Buenos Aires City Legislature in 2022. In 2023, La Empoderada released the first LGTTBQ+ album in the history of tango. The ensemble has performed on the city’s most prestigious stages and taken part in major international festivals, including Valparatango (Chile) in 2024.
Iriel is also part of the tango projects “Rivage” (since 2018) and “Tipas Tango” (since 2026), two artistic initiatives featuring a Franco-Argentine repertoire that aim to build cultural bridges between Argentina and France.
At the same time, she is developing her career as a soloist alongside guitarist Tomás Mutio, and has undertaken European tours in 2023, 2024 and 2025, performing in France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany and Belgium. During these tours, she has performed on numerous stages and at renowned international festivals, notably “Tarbes en Tango” (France), in which she took part during the 2025 edition, thereby contributing to the promotion and influence of Argentine tango on the international stage.
Tomás Mutio : Guitare
Tomás Mutio is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger from Corrientes, Argentina. Coming from a family of musicians, he began his musical journey at the age of four by playing the drums, before moving on to the guitar, bass, piano and singing at the ‘El aula de música de Corrientes’ school.
In 2020, he moved to Buenos Aires to specialise in tango, guitar and arrangement at the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda (EMPA). It was there that he formed a duo with Iriel Kaufman, with whom he toured Europe in 2024. His versatility has also led him to join the duo ‘Tomi&Tomi’ alongside Tomi Lebrero — performing in Argentina, Uruguay, Europe and Japan — as well as to collaborate with artists such as Iriel Kaufman, Tomi Llancafil and Melek Carla, exploring genres ranging from Argentine tango and folk music to the music of the Eastern Mediterranean. Alongside his performing career, he works as a teacher and arranger for various ensembles and musical genres.
