Eric Chalan

Eric CHALAN
Double bass

Born in 1969, Eric Chalan studied at the Avignon Conservatoire, the Boulogne Billancourt Conservatoire and the Paris Conservatoire. He then worked as a guest musician in various orchestras (Orchestre de Paris, Rennes, Avignon, Caen, Metz, Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, etc.). Between 1997 and 2004 he worked regularly with the Ensemble InterContemporain, giving numerous concerts and making a number of recordings (pli selon pli by and with Pierre Boulez). His taste for diversity guides him towards the practice of other music, in particular Argentine tango. He has collaborated with Gerardo Jerez le Cam, Gustavo Beytelmann, and in two musical shows directed by Camilla Saraceni.

He is currently touring with three of Tomas Gubitsch's ensembles, and is also a member of the sextet ‘Splendor tango club’, a group dedicated to the ball, formed in 2011. He is a member of the Dedalus ensemble, founded by Didier Ashour and dedicated to minimalist music. Improvisation has also been a means of forging links with other art forms such as dance, graphic art and theatre, in the form of performances or shows. For example, he created the music for ‘c'est entre nous’ for two dancers from the Régine chopineau company in la Rochelle.

‘A mesure’ is a duet with actress and singer Christine Bertocchi, with lyrics by Ghislain Mugneret and music by Guillaume Orti. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Ego Amand Quintett, a group initiated by Oscar Strasnoy, an Argentinian composer and pianist. In 2011 he created and performed the music for the play Avenir Radieux by Nicolas Lambert (compagnie un pas de côté). He has also appeared on stage with Julia Migenes, Angélique Ionatos and, currently, Agnès Jaoui.
