MURIEL LOUETTE
A tango: for better or for worse
After graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1999 with a degree in Fine Arts and Art Science, I turned to teaching, and today I am a professor of painting and drawing at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lorient. I regularly exhibit my paintings in Brittany.
In 2024, I began a series of drawings based on the world of tango. People who do not practise tango often tell me that my drawings teach them a lot about the psychology of tangueras ros. This has a truthful, funny, exciting and even beneficial effect on the world of tango. It is a unique world, yet everything that happens and is shown in the drawings affects society as a whole: making the man/woman combination work, or causing it to fail, how to exist in the eyes of others or not, ambiguities, accepting or rejecting assigned roles, unspoken thoughts brought to light, things that get complicated before they even begin, etc. I like to talk about all this with laughter and bite.
